Ms Harty said a stem cell procedure could help her have a normal life.
“It’s certainly not a cure and it’s not guaranteed to work, but the worst case scenario is that I won’t get worse and the best case is I will get better,” she said.
Ms Harty said her life stopped at 30.
“I used to play netball, football, basketball, tennis and badminton, but now I can’t even walk around the block,” she said.
Friend Kerry Murphy said she wanted to see Ms Harty go back to enjoying life without pain and suffering.
“She’s on the pension and she can’t afford a procedure like this and as her friends we should all rally behind her,” she said.
Mrs Murphy said people could show their support via www.gofundme.com/care-for-ger or donate to the Commonwealth Bank account 10077049 and BSB 063-676.
She said the fundraising target was $20,000 which could cover treatment, care, accommodation and other ongoing costs.
