Wimmera Southern Mallee video captures youth thoughts | Video

A VIDEO highlighting what is important to the region’s young people has debuted online.

The animated video features audio recordings and drawings from Wimmera students aged between eight and 20.

Natimuk artist Dave Jones worked on the piece with about 40 students from various schools.

The video was first shown at the Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Assembly in Horsham this month.

St Brigid’s College Horsham student Taylor Fedke became involved with the project through Nexus Youth Centre in Horsham.

He said social connectivity was the most important thing to him as a young person living in the Wimmera.

“I’ve grown up believing that physical, face to face connections are always better than ones you have online,” he said.

Taylor said he would like to see more dedicated youth activities in the region.

“Yes people do like going down the street shopping, going to the movies or going bowling, but some of these things aren't always going to entertain people all the time,” he said.

“I think if we could get a different variety of things for young people to do that might spice things up a bit.”
