The first night of trials was held as Horsham College Junior Site Gym on Tuesday evening and a second evening of trials will take place on August 22 from 7-8.30pm.

Volleyball Horsham president David Berry said he was pleased with the first night of trials. “We had 17 that attended and about another 10 apologies,” he said. “So we’re really happy with those numbers. There was a good mix of players returning and lots of younger players coming for a first time.”

The academy usually works with about 25 juniors throughout the year and looks likely to do so again.

“We’re open to anyone who wants to come along and take their game to another level,” Berry said. “There are plenty of children out there who show plenty of talent. What we are about is providing more specialised training that they might not get at their schools, and also complimenting those programs.”

This year will see the program change its training days.The Sunday morning sessions in previous years have meant it was sometimes difficult for players to commit.“We think that by moving the sessions to Tuesday evening we should have more juniors available to make more of the sessions,” Berry said.
