Holy Trinity Lutheran School year 8 student Alexandra Salter won a poetry competition earlier this year, which meant she had the opportunity to experience life as a Horsham Rural City mayor.

Alexandra said she spent the day with Horsham mayor Pam Clarke and had a lot of fun.  

“In the morning we went around and talked with all the directors at council,” she said.

Alexandra also attended the city’s Vietnam Veterans’ Day service and laid a wreath of behalf of council.

Cr Clarke said the day was a good challenge for Alexandra.

“The first director we spoke to, technical services director John Martin, challenged her to sort out a few issues, such as building a bridge over the river,” she said.

Alexandra said the poetry competition involved writing about how she saw Horsham in 10 years time.

The competition asked people aged 12 to 25 to submit a poem based on their vision for Horsham and the surrounding region.

Entrants discussed issues on employment, internet, education, safety and transportation.
