Ararat has had a much different end to the season, finding some of its best form in recent weeks.
The Rats defeated Nhill, drew with third-placed Warrack and lost by just five points to the in-form Saints in their last three games.
Ararat coach Terry Keilar said he has been impressed by the way his team has finished the season.
“We have been really impressed with the second half of the year,” he said.
“Our footy has improved a lot and we would love to finish on a positive note against our rivals.”
The Warriors have beaten Ararat comfortably in the two games they have played this season but will be vulnerable with a significant number of senior players still out with injury.
“We are aware that they have had heavy wins against us this year but we are confident we can get the win,” Keilar said. “When Ararat and Stawell come together it is always a tough match.”
The game will be significant off the field as well, as the teams unite to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy.
Both Ararat and Stawell will wear green shoelaces to raise awareness around the incurable disease.
“It puts football into perspective and makes you remember that there is more important things than football,” Keilar said.
“Local communities coming together for days like Saturday is what makes regional Victoria great.”
