The students have enjoyed a busy month with the open day, B and S Ball and keeping up with their respective studies. With only eight weeks remaining, the hectic times will continue for some.
Second-year students are on their Annual Ag Tour throughout the state this week, and will no doubt gain valuable information from a broad range of industry experts.
Last week Skillinvest hosted WorldSkills, with engineering apprentices from across the Wimmera region, at Longerenong College.
WorldSkills aims to raise the status of practical and vocational learning across Australia. Its key message is “Learning by doing is as important as academic learning – there are many paths to success”.

Our Certificate IV in Agriculture students put on their community hats last week and conducted a sausage sizzle to raise money for the Flying Doctor Service. The students raised more than $300.
Students are working hard perfecting their skills before the Show Steer Team head to the Royal Melbourne Show later this month to compete in the carcass competition in which we have enjoyed enormous success for the past three years as Grand Champion Carcass. The co-ordinators, Barry Ray and Allan Penhall, will be taking 14 steers and 18 students to Melbourne.
Longerenong College is hosting a one week shearing school early next month. The course is suitable for people who are physically capable to shear and handle sheep and must be at least 16 years of age.
The course will enable participants to carry out the basic skills of shearing. Participants will also learn how to correctly set up a hand-piece, grinding combs and cutters, follow health and fitness procedures, and correctly catch sheep for shearing.
Due to the increase in student interest, a college information day will be held on December 8. Phone the college on 03 5362 2222 for more course information.
