The Eagles were behind the eight-ball from the start against Minyip-Murtoa and could not find a way back into the contest.
Coach Jane Richardson said her side had focused on its game plan during the week. “I think we’re feeling better about our chances,” she said. “We need to shut down the Saints attack. They have plenty of height down there, some good pace and solid skills.”
It was the opposite case for the Horsham Saints the following day when the side prolonged its A Grade season for another week by proving too strong for Dimboola.
Saints coach Jess Cannane said she thought her side matched up well against the Eagles.
“They obviously have a couple of key players who we will need to limit the influence of during the match,” she said. “But we will take some confidence from having beaten them earlier in the season.”
Penny Fisher will be pivotal to limiting the influence of Saints’ goal shooter Maggie Caris while her sister Rene will be bound to have a big impact at the other end of the court.
The question that continues to hang over the heads of the Eagles’ side is its ability to find a strong goaling combination.
“Thirty goals is never going to be enough in a game,” Richardson said. “Minyip-Murtoa had 20 more shots than we did so something was clearly breaking down.”
