The group completed installing a connecting pathway, native shrubs, wood seating and natural play equipment, and held a barbecue on the reserve on Sunday.
McNeill Street and the McNeill Street reserve were named after Grace McNeill, who in 1911 was a trailblazer as first female Town Clerk of Ararat.
Ararat Landcare president Stephen Hughan the group had competed many and varied projects over the past 15 years.
“The targeting of the introduced weed of Gorse has been a major achievement and source of pride, as well as boosting native trees improving sites in the broader community space,.
‘Sometimes it’s spraying Gorse, sometimes it’s a planting project; we were part of the building of the Cemetery Creek
Ararat Landcare member John Mawson said the group was a feel-good and very welcoming organisation and they were pleased and satisfied with this latest community project.
“Sometimes it’s spraying Gorse, sometimes it’s a planting project; we were part of the building of the Cemetery Creek Track a while back,” Mr Mawson said.
Mr Mawson said group members also built the Keith Little Bridge, named after the then president and current member.
‘It goes over the Cemetery Creek and was put together by the group - all volunteers - from an engineered flat pack,” he said.
