Lamb supply lifted by over 7000 head, as 12,805 mostly new season young lambs were penned this week at Horsham.
The quality was mostly very good as young lambs show more maturity and finish.
The usual buying group attended and operated in a market ranging from firm to $5/head easier.
Heavy young lambs reached $185 to be firm, with heavier trade weights selling from $142 to $154.50/head, to average 595c/kg cwt. Old lamb sold to $149, with most selling from $112 to $149/head. Merino lambs sold from $101 to $117/head.
Restockers were active and paid from $106.50 to $119 for young lambs and paid $50 to $85/head for lighter plainer lots. Restocker also paid from $86 to $131 for Merino wethers and paid to $120/head for Merino ewes.
There was also an increase in sheep numbers as more Merino sheep are sold off shears. All weights and grades were on offer and sheep are presenting in good condition.
Not all the regular export buyers operated fully. Merino wethers sold to keen competition with the ewe mutton selling to $10/head easier on the medium and heavy weights.
Light weight 2 score lambs sold from $93 to $109/head. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs sold from $108 to $130/head and averaged 600c/kg cwt.
Trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs sold from $128 to $148 with the heavier weights selling from $142.50 to $154.50/head, and they ranged from 570c to 630c to average 600c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 and 4 score export lambs sold from $152 to $185/head and averaged 590c/kg cwt.
Heavy hoggets sold from $90 to $120/head. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $60 to $80/head.
Sheep: 3022. Change: up 1306.
Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $76.50 to $90/head, with the Merino mutton averaging 380c/kg cwt.
Heavy Merino ewes sold from $84 to $118, heavy Merino wethers ranged from $95 to $125.50 and the medium weights sold from $80 to $90/head, they ranged from 350c to 380c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 to 4 score crossbred sheep sold from $76 to $90/head. Heavy rams made to $80/head.
BALLARAT
September 26. Yarding: 16,169. Change: up 3990. Lambs: 11,614. Change: up 3417.
Quality was average to good with all weights and grades on offer. The usual buying group attended and operated in a mostly firm market, with young lambs selling either side of last week’s levels. Heavy young lambs reached $185, with heavier trade weights selling from $145 to $156/head and averaging around 600c/kg cwt.
Processors, feeders and restockers operated on the lighter trade weight lambs, with restockers paying from $106 to $132 and from $65 to $90/head for lighter drafts, with most going to local areas. The old crossbred lambs reached a top of $190, with most of the trade weight and heavy old lambs selling from $130 to $166/head. Old Merino lambs sold from $86 to $108/head.
Heavy hoggets reached $136/head. Light weight new season young lambs sold from $81 to $105/head. Light trade 2 and 3 score young lambs sold from $104 to $132/head and averaged around 605c/kg cwt. Trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs sold from $126 to $147, with the heavier drafts selling from $145 to $156/head, they ranged from 570c to 635c to average around 600c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 and 4 score young lambs sold from $155 to $185/head to also average around 600c/kg cwt.
Sheep: 4555. Change up 573.
There were 4555 sheep yarded covering all weights, they generally sold around last week’s levels, with odd sales easier. The younger ewes sold for $160 while the older ewes sold from $126 to $150/head, with all staying locally.
Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $62 to $74/head. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $65 to $100/head and ranged from 280c to 385c with the Merino mutton averaging around 370c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $88 to $104, heavy Merino wethers sold from $103 to $110 and the medium weights sold from $88 to $95.50/head and averaged around 370c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 to 5 score crossbred ewes sold from $76 to $116, and a few pens of heavy crossbred wethers reached $132/head.
Rams sold from $46 to $82 and restockers paid to $100/head.

NARACOORTE
September 26. Yarding: 966. Change: up 187.
Numbers increased as agents offered 966 head of live weight and open auction cattle, with a lift of nearly 200 head on the previous week.
These cattle sold to the usual field of trade and processor buyers along with some restocker support, while feeder activity was limited.
There was a large increase in the number of heavy weight cattle that came forward, with large weights and good conditioning in most pens however the market sold to reduced competition with prices easing across the board.
A small number of vealers ranged from 250c to 315c/kg. Y
earling steers met subdued competition as they ranged from 245c to 295c, easing by 15c/kg.
Restockers were active here as they turned cattle back out ranging from 250c to 269c/kg.
Yearling heifers also fell in price but only up to 6c as the trade purchased ranging from 240c to 278c and restockers were active from 212c to 267c/kg.
Numbers rose in the grown steers with more heavy weight types on offer as they ranged from 252c to 280c, easing from 3c to 7c, while an improved offering of bullocks remained close to firm in price as they ranged from 242c to 272c/kg.
Grown heifers traded from 232c to 268c with a small number of manufacturing steers selling from 200c to 225c and some restocker activity here to 211c/kg.
Cow numbers also rose, but they also eased in price as the light weight types ranged from 190c to 216c and the heavier selection sold from 228c to 244c, easing by 4c/kg.
Heavy bulls ranged from 225c to 238c with lighter types selling to 240c/kg.
WARRNAMBOOL
September 27. Yarding: 431. Change: down 160.
There was a smaller yarding of cattle and quality was mixed for the current following of buyers.
Demand remained steady but cow prices were 15c lower and grown heifers sold from 10c to 15c/kg cheaper.
Grown steers were back by 5c to 10c, but young cattle remained firm on their cheaper levels of the last few weeks.
The yarding was made up of 74 grown steers, 114 young cattle and grown heifers, 215 cows and 28 bulls.
The odd C2 and C3 vealer made 290c and 280c with two B2's at 324c/kg. The few C2 and C3 yearlings were from 252c to 285c and restockers paid 235c to 256c/kg.
Most D and E muscled 1 score yearlings were between 130c and 180c/kg.
The C3 and C4 grown steers sold from 240c to 260c with restockers going to 264c/kg.
The D2 manufacturing steers made between 215c and 225c/kg.
An average to good selection of C3 and C4 grown heifers were from 220c to 230c, with three very good B3's at 254c/kg.
The D2 grades made 208c to 212c to average only 5c/kg easier. Most E1 cows were between 120c and 170c with the best sales to 180c/kg.
The D1 cows were from 150c to 180c and D2 grades were at 190c to 200c/kg. Heavy weight C3 to C5 cows made from 210c to 230c/kg.
Restockers paid 120c to 190c/kg for D and E muscled 1 score light to medium weight cows.
The line-up of B2 heavy weight bulls were from 250c to 262c and averaged 15c/kg lower.
