There will be plenty of late nights ahead for some students to complete assessments, particularly those that have focused a little more on the social side.
The cropping season has now entered the nervous zone as we barrack for one more good rain to finish off crops and pray there are no more frosts for 2017.
Crops are showing really good potential at the moment, but as we have seen in the Mallee in the past few weeks, things can change really quickly.
Frost, high temperatures and mice have unfortunately ruined a potentially good year for a number of farmers in that region, with even worse results for other areas of Australia.
The Royal Melbourne Show is over for another year.
And although the college didn’t quite win the major award of Grand Champion Carcase, it was certainly another very successful year for Longerenong and our students.
There are three major weight categories and I am pleased to report we had both the Champion Export and Reserve Champion Export carcases.
This category is for large animals (over 300kg dressed weight).
These animals were also awarded the highest point scoring School Carcase at the show, as well as the highest scoring bred and prepared carcase of all the schools.
This is certainly another successful year for the college and well done to staff Barry Ray and Allan Penhall for all their time and effort helping students with the many hours of preparation.
The Longerenong College Shearing School is under way this week with some participants travelling long distances for the quality course.
Well done to staff Barry Ray and Allan Penhall for all their time and effort helping students with the many hours of preparation.
The college is also running a chemical users course next week. If you are interested, phone the college on 5362 2222.
The college’s information day is from 10am on December 8. This day is designed for students interested in studying next year. To register, go to www.longy.com.au.
