A purple HOPE sign – decorated with the handprints of Horsham school students – will remain at the centre on O'Callaghan Parade in Horsham throughout the month.
Centre manager Debra Shipway said the sign had attracted a lot of interest.
“We’ve had really positive feedback. We also have a purple quilt up on our wall when you come in, and some other purple things,” she said. “We have done things for Paint The Town Purple in the past, but we’ve never been officially involved.
“A lot of staff and volunteers have been affected in some way by cancer, and we felt it was the time to get on board.
“We will have the purple display up for the whole month, and we encourage people to pop down and have a look.”
Paint The Town Purple from October 9 to 13 marks the official launch of the 2018 Horsham and District Relay For Life. The initiative involves businesses decorating their windows to raise awareness for the relay.
Co-ordinator Tami Lane said the visitor centre’s display captured the essence of the event.
“Not only have they put together an informative display, they have also offered to sell our Recipes For Life book during October,” she said.
Mrs Lane said businesses could call her on 0417 002 237 or email horshamvic.relayforlife@gmail.com to register for the Paint The Town Purple. The major prize is a $2000 Mail-Times advertising package.
