Final heat races of the motocross championships, at the Horsham Motorcycle Club’s Dooen track, were completed on Wednesday.
Tam Pall of KTM and Matt Falvo of MA congratulated the 40 riders of each division to make finals during a presentation on Wednesday night.
Thursday was the first round of finals for riders and each competitor will be trying to gain an early lead at the front of the pack.
Friday is the final day of finals races.
Horsham club president Kenny Watts said Friday was the day onlookers needed to attend to witness the best riding of the week.
“There are people everywhere at the moment. The track looks good and I think there will be lots of people turn up on Friday,” Mr Watts said.
“We’ve actually had to order in some extra programs so they can follow the action.”
Mason Semmens has been a rider who has dominated his two premier classes at the motocross championships, winning every race in the premier 125cc and premier 250cc classes.
Semmens, 15, hails from the Yarra Valley.
He has been riding motorbikes since he was five.
He won the 13-under-15 125cc and 250cc classes at the Australian Junior Motocross Championships in 2016.
“I’m trying to defend the titles this week and it has all gone to plan,” Semmens said.
Semmens said it was his father who initially introduced him to motocross.
He started as an Enduro rider, cross country riding through the mountains.
“Then I moved into motocross. I loved motocross. It has gotten me to where I am today and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he said.
“There is no other sport like it. You have 39 other riders plus yourself coming into a 12-metre corner off the start… The adrenaline rush is crazy and there is nothing like it.”
When Semmens isn’t riding or training he is either doing school work or hanging out with family and friends.
Horsham riders Angus McFarlane, 15, and Michael Blake, 9, said the track was a bit dry on Wednesday.
Blake placed 15th for his second race of the week – an improvement of three places from his first race.
McFarlane said he wanted to beat a track time of 2.10 minutes by the year’s end.
The championships started on Sunday.
