Round 1 of the Wimmera Pennant Bowls was played on Saturday. Division 1 premiers Dimboola 1 went down to Nhill 1 by 29 shots at Nhill. Big winners for Nhill were Charles Rethus, Greg Ryan, Trevor Merrett and Kevin Jones (s), who had a 21-shot win.

Sunnyside 1 beat Coughlin Park 2 by 21 shots, with Adam Galpin, Stuart Cowan, Bill McFarlane and Ash Batchelor (s) getting up by 10 shots. Horsham City 1’s 31-shot win over Horsham Golf 1 was set up by big wins to the rinks skipped by Kevin Clyne, Ron Goudie and Daniel Gloury. The biggest win of the week was 34 shots by Kaniva 1 over Edenhope 1.
In Division 2, Sunnyside 2 had a last gasp two-shot win over Coughlin Park 3. Sunnyside 3 travelled to Dimboola 2 and got over the line by 11 shots. Nhill 2 beat reigning premiers Horsham City 2 by 20 shots. Nhill skippers Barry Schultz and Maurice Bone led their rinks to big wins. Natimuk knocked off Horsham City 3 by 29 shots.
Division 3 featured a 34-shot win by Nhill 3 over new team Edenhope 2. Daryl Leyonhjelm, Keith Koop, William Alexander and Wilfred Bound had a 29-shot win for Nhill. In the closest match, Horsham City 4 had a one-shot victory over premiers Kaniva 2. Coughlin Park 4 and Sunnyside 4 won one rink and drew one, but the team of Sue Kealy, Lynette Tregenza, Bev Dean and Shirley Schorback proved the difference in a 13-shot win. Horsham City 5 forfeited to Horsham Golf 2.
In Midweek Pennant Division 1, Nhill and Kaniva could not be separated in a 71-71 tie. Kaniva won two rinks and Nhill one. Horsham City 1 snuck in by two shots over Coughlin Park 1 and Sunnyside 1 claimed a 16-shot victory over Dimboola. In Division 2, Serviceton got over the line by two shots against Natimuk. A 12-shot win by Erika Rambouseks rink ensured Sunnyside 2 had a seven-shot triumph over Horsham City 2. Edenhope had a 20-shot win over Coughlin Park 2. Major winners for Edenhope were Pearl Summerhayes, Kathleen Schmidt, Roger Osborn and Christine Osborn (s).
The 60 and over singles competition for ladies and men will be played at Natimuk on Wednesday and Friday.
