The road is currently being used as a detour from the Western Highway after a fuel tanker rolled on Tuesday morning, causing the major thoroughfare to be shut in both directions.
A motorist in the area who wished to remain anonymous heard the news over UHF radio and described the scene as “madness”.
“It’s a narrow road- you have got this secondary road trying to hold mainstream traffic and it’s mad,” the driver said.
“There are B-doubles passing each other and going off the road to let others through.
“There is dust and traffic everywhere.”
Stawell Sergeant Sandra Marriner said she was aware of a collision in the area, but had no further details.
Highway patrol are making their way to the scene.
More to come.
