The association left the release of the fixtures as late as possible in order to give club’s the best opportunity to confirm numbers.

Association secretary Darren Chesterfield confirmed 24 teams would make up the three junior grades.

“Everything is looking really positive and the clubs have a real opportunity to grow from within,” he said.

“It’s now just up to them to do the right thing in order to help the juniors enjoy the game so they stick with it.”

The under-12 and under-14 age group will each be made up of ten teams while the under-16.5 age group will continue to have four teams.

Homers will field three teams in each of the under-12 and under-14 age group as well as entering a team in the under-16.5 age group.

“That just shows how quickly you can grow if you put a junior program in place and have the right people supporting it,” Chesterfield said.

“It’s all happened over the course of only a few seasons.

“The Horsham Saints did it before them and its’ good to see even more clubs are jumping on board.”

Colts have entered an under-12 side in order to help build their club up.

“Now that they’ve put something in place we will hopefully see them grow as well,” Chesterfield said.

“What we want is to be able to share the growth among the clubs as much as possible so it continues to be a good competition.”

A new under-14 Bullants side has been entered into the competition as well.

Chesterfield said numbers for the team were still being shored up.

“Susan McKenry seemed very passionate about getting a team going there so that is always another positive sign,” he said.

The Homers under-16.5 side has effectively replaced the Jung-Blackheath-Dimboola side that took part in the age group last season.

Chesterfield said it will not detract from competition within the age group because it means there will not be a bye but it would hurt not to have those clubs involved.

“We hope it doesn’t mean we lose those players from the sport but there wasn’t much that could be done about it,” he said.

The under-14s will play games on Friday eveings while the under-12 and under-16.5 games will be played on Saturday mornings.

Rounds five and six of the under-16.5 competition will be Twenty20 fixtures played on the same day at Dudley Cornell on December 17.

“It will be great to have all four teams together in one place in a more social sort of day,” Chesterfield said.

“That’s how we want to promote the sport, as something that can really be enjoyed in a social atmosphere and Dudley Cornell gives us a great opportunity to do that with games running side by side.”
