THREE Wimmera organisations were honoured at the Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards on Friday, having taken out the top gong in their respective categories.

Rural Northwest Health was recognised in the prime super employer excellence in the aged care category while Glendemar Multiple Purpose Merinos received accolades in the prime super agricultural innovation award.
Wycheproof’s Bakery on Broadway was winner in the Regional Development Victoria business achievement category.
Rural Northwest Health acting chief executive Jo Martin said the award was recognition for the team’s hard work at the Warracknabeal and Hopetoun campuses. She said the organisation prides itself on maintaining excellence in aged care.
Mrs Martin said the facilities at Rural Northwest Health were not a short-term investment.
“We have invested time into this space for a number of years and I believe that is why were have been recognised,” she said.
“There was stiff competition including our neighbours, Wimmera Health Care Group, and everyone nominated were worthy finalists.”
Glendemar Multi Purpose Merinos’ Ben Duxson said it was good to be recognised for the organisation’s position as innovators.
Mr Duxson said it was never the intention to be leaders in innovation. He said Glendemar Multiple Purpose Merinos adopted new technology to improve profitability and production while saving labour.
“We have a clear direction going into the future and we look forward to introducing new technology to enhance our plans for ourselves and our clients,” he said.
“There are a lot of new technology coming out there and its all about making an assessment on what is best for our objectives.
“It’s been a lot of years adapting technology we thought could work and making it work for us.”
Horsham Islamic Welfare Association and Horsham’s Axis Enterprises were also nominees.
