The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first which proved to be a great call.
Scotney Hayter combined with captain Daniel Taylor for an opening stand of 48 before Taylor bowed out for 15.
The entrance of Nathan Quick to the crease caused headaches for the Gappers, with the 24-year-old in ominous form.
Hayter hit 10 fours on his way to 72 before being dismissed by Rhyleli Chamberlain.
The loss of Hayter brought Trevor Quick to the crease to join his son. Nathan continued to build his team’s score and edged closer towards his maiden century.
Sitting on 99 on the final ball of the innings, Quick hit the ball for two to make his way to 101 not out and bring up his maiden century.
He said it was a special moment made even more special by having his father at the crease with him.
“It was a pretty amazing feeling,” Quick said.
“Getting to share that moment with my dad was special.”
Quick said the thought of a century did not cross his mind until towards the end of the innings.
“The first half of the innings I was just getting my eye in,” he said.
“With about five overs left I thought I had a shot at it. I started to play more shots to try and get there.
“I didn’t know what I was on until the last ball. There was a lot of yelling and a lot of shouting from the club room and for the last ball they told me just to make sure I hit it which I did.”
The Quicks put on an unbeaten stand of 150 runs to close the innings and take Rhymney/Moyston’s to total 2/269 after the 40 overs.
Halls Gap struggled in the reply, managing just 108 before being bowled out after 30 overs.
Gary Prydderch was the pick of the Halls Gap batsman, scoring 37 as the highest run-getter for his team.
In a day for milestones, Rhymney/Moyston’s David Cosgriff took a five wicket haul in the big victory.
Rhymney/Moyston captain Daniel Taylor said it was an ideal start to the season for his team.
“Our opening bowlers bowled nice tight lines to put the pressure on,” he said.
“We fielded really well, I think we only dropped one catch.
“Obviously Nathan’s innings was a standout as well.
“He was patient and he had some very good shots in there. “Other than myself our other batters did a really good job as well.”
Taylor said it was important to get a good start to the year. “There will be some tough games coming up so hopefully we can build some momentum.”
