Coach Jeff Roslin said the boys had all worked hard in the final session to stake their claim for selection.
“Every batsman got a nice long bat and every bowler got a great opportunity with long spells,” he said.
“A massive thanks to Homers for providing us with a turf wicket for our centre wicket practice.”
Before the squad made it to the middle of the ground they took part in an extensive warm-up and a two-kilometre time trial.
Roslin said the 13 cricketers that made the final squad had been rewarded for the effort they had put in.
“From within the initial squad it is not necessarily talent that sets the 13 boys apart, it’s the ones that have made themselves available and have shown a willingness to work hardest,” he said.
Donald cricketer Nathaniel Holmes-Brown was selected in the squad for a second straight season,.
He is the top age player from the Wimmera region to make the cut.
“He’s got that extra bit of experience having played last year so he already knows what to expect,” Roslin said.
“His ability to bowl accurately while moving the ball in different ways allowed him to stand out.
“He is also someone that can fill a variety of roles within the bowling attack; whether it is with the new ball, through the middle overs or at the death.”
The squad will now be given November off in order to concentrate on the end of the school year before training ramps up again in December.
“Then we should be right for state championships early in January,” Roslin said.
