NHILL is the only undefeated side after two rounds of the West Wimmera Cricket Association after it held on for a narrow win against Kiata on Saturday.

The Nhill side won the toss and batted first with Ritchie Dods and Daniel Gardni getting the side off to a positive start. After a 37-run opening partnership James Philip kept things going on his way to 53 before being caught off the bowling of Shaun Alexander, 3-30. While Nhill’s top and middle order all got starts the tail failed to wag before the side was all out for 183 with a touch over two overs remaining.

An unbeaten 66 by Kiata opener Todd Alexander and 40 from Trevor Polkinghorne was not enough to see their side over the line. The side could not score at a quick enough rate and ultimately fell 11 runs short at the end of its allotted 40 overs. Ash Dickinson was the pick of Nhill’s bowlers, he finished with figures of 2-25 off eight overs.

Jeparait came out on top in a replay of the 2016-17 grand final against Winiam. Winiam batted first and were off to a positive start with a 47-run opening partnership but things fell away through the middle order. The side went from being 1-67 to all out for 89 as Justin Knropp picked up 4-13 off 7.4 overs.

The chase was made much easier for Jeparit thanks to 37 sundries effectively reducing the runs the lineup needed to score to just 52. While wickets fell regularly throughout the side’s 40 overs the target was too low to defend. Jeparit finished on 7-154 to complete a 65-run win.
