Scott Hughes, Ben Jones and Jess Morano will all join the club as it looks to move up the ladder in 2018.
Hughes has been a potent forward for Torquay in the Bellarine Football League and St Mary’s in the Geelong Footballl League.
In the past six seasons he has kicked 442 goals for the clubs including tallies of 101 in 2013 and 106 in 2012.
Nhill recruitment committee member Matt Fritsch said the 27-year-old would add a lot of on field leadership.
“Particularly up in the forward line,” he said.
“He’s a lead-up forward that is pretty handy when it hits the deck as well. He amasses a fair few of his goals when the ball has gone to ground.”
Fritsch will be joined at the club by Ben Jones and Jesse Morano who played together at Maribyrnong Park Football Club in 2017.
Morano will likely play through the midfield for the Tigers but is capable of going forward to kick goals.
“We’ve seen with guys like Jake Harrap that our midfielders don’t have too much trouble kicking goals, especially at home on Davis Park,” he said.
“Ben is a 200 centimetre big feller who can play ruck but loves kicking goals and is very handy at centre-half-back. He’s pretty versatile so he will be a big utility for us.”
Hughes was the first signature to be secured by Nhill with Ben and Jesse falling in to place afterwards.
“Scotty is good mates with a couple of blokes that played for Nhill years ago and we got onto him through them,” Fritsch said.
“He then passed us on to Ben and then Ben passed us on to Jesse. So it was a real flow-on effect which has been great.”
Fritsch said it was particularly handy to bring in recruits that have already played with each other.
“Ben and Jesse will be spending a majority of their games in the midfield together and would have already sorted each other out,” he said.
“We won’t have to wait a couple of games for those two to get the feel of each others games.”
Hughes and Jones have also previously played together.
Fritsch said the club was excited to have secured new recruits so far out from the start of the season.
“We’re really happy to have blokes over the line at this time of the year,” he said.
“We’ve got a fair few more more recruits in the gun.”
The club is also hoping to retain as many players as possible from its 2016 season and has not had any requests for clearances away from the club at this stage.
The club’s annual meeting will take place on Monday evening.
President Brett Wheaton said he is hopeful the Tigers will be able to announce their senior coach at the meeting.
“It’s a really exciting time at the club and hopefully we’ll have some more big announcements as well,” he said.
