Tournament co-ordinator Sandra Casey said it was great to see so many junior players compete.
“The day went really well. There were 79 juniors entered, so good numbers across all age groups,” she said.
“For the equivalent tournament last year the numbers were up, we don’t usually get this many entries for the first tournament of the season so that was really pleasing to see.”
The heat did not put off the juniors, with many playing in their first tournament and enjoying the entire experience.
“There was a lot of kids in the 10 and under age groups playing in their very first tournament. The focus was absolutely on participation, fun and good sports,” Casey said.
Casey said the 12-and-under boys singles competition was an especially competitive age group.
“There were 20 entries in the 12-and-under boys singles, which is huge. That was a good, strong competition,” she said.
Jordy Friberg took out the under-12 boys singles title, while other notable winners included Edmund Bush in the under-14 boys singles and Jacob Holm in the under-15 boys singles.
In the girls singles, Eliza Hobbs claimed the under-10 singles competition, while Philippa Bush and Emily Polack won the under-12 and under-14 girls singles titles respectively.
The next Wimmera Regional Tennis juniors tournament will be at Warracknabeal on December 10.
