He will join Hamish Exell as joint coaches for the senior football team.
Farr said it was the right time to return to coaching after taking some time off.
“I probably needed a couple years off. (My) kids are at the right age now and we want to get them back in that club environment,” he said.
“It was an easy fit at Kalkee. My wife and all her family have played out there and have grown up there.”
Farr said he was looking forward to working with Kalkee’s youthful list.
“They have such a young and talented list - that was one of the big drawcards for me,” he said.
“We've already started training and they're super keen to learn and take things on board.”
Kalkee president Trevor McRae said securing Farr was a big boost for the club.

“His knowledge and experiences of coaching and playing football at a high level is only going to be good for the guys at the club,” McRae said.
McRae said the club lured Farr back to coaching due to his connections with Exell and the club’s community.
“Stuart knows Hamish from his Dimboola days and he has family connections at Kalkee, so all those things sort of lined up and Stuart was keen to get back into some sort of coaching role,” McRae said.
“We were pretty happy to bring him on board.”
Farr said he was relishing the opportunity to work with Exell again.
“I think we compliment each other really well,” he said.
“I have a very good relationship with him after my time at Dimboola. We think alike and get along really well. I can't wait for that relationship to continue.
“I really want to help develop Hamish into one of the better coaches around here. It's probably more of a mentoring role, I don't crave that sole top job like maybe I once used to.”
Farr has most recently coached Dimboola to the 2013 Wimmera League flag, leaving the club after the 2014 season.
Prior to that, he played a part in all 10 of the Horsham Demons’ premierships between 2003 and 2012. He took over the coaching role in 2006 from Guy Smith.
McRae said Farr’s knowledge of the region would be valuable.
“Stuart has a lot of contacts in the football community in the Wimmera and beyond,” he said.
“He has a wealth of experience.
“It’s not only good for Hamish as a joint coach, but also for the younger guys that have aspirations of becoming coaches themselves. He will give them a lot of his knowledge.”

McRae said Farr would help Kalkee as the club navigated through a rebuilding process.
“We are going through a rebuilding stage and now we need to make sure we don’t fall too far off the top four or five teams,” he said.
“We are trying to establish ourselves as a finals contender for the 2018 season.”
McRae has not ruled out signing more players before the season starts.
“Hopefully we will pick up another three or four players,” he said.
“Stuart is in talks with a few players. Hopefully they come to fruition.”
