HORSHAM’S Kannamaroo Festival starts tonight with a program jam-packed with festivities for everyone to enjoy.
Kannamaroo Festival chairwoman Emma Hynes said festival kicked off in Firebrace Street with new features to attract crowds.
People are encouraged to “follow the florrie” as they wander through Firebrace Street.
“A few restaurants in Firebrace Street have come up with some ideas for their own versions of the florrie and it has led to a mini florrie trail,” she said.
“The restaurants will have the florrie available for purchase on the night only – it could turn into a great competition with some crazy ideas. There has been talk of a mascot, too, so we will see how it goes this year.”
Another feature on Friday night was the Movember Challenge where competitors can show off their luscious facial creations for one of three titles.
Miss Hynes said men could turn up on the night with $5 to enter, with money donated to the Movember Foundation.
The last new feature was the art on the White Hart after dark performance.
She said the committee was excited to see what the organisers for this project had created.
“They have created a light projection performance that will be displayed on the building. We aren’t sure on what it will entail, so everyone will have to come and see,” she said.
Also organised are a rocking climbing wall, carnival rides and live music.
Festivities continue on Saturday at Sawyer Park. Heaps of activities and food will be available from noon.
Miss Hynes said she was excited to see the festival return to its original location.
In the afternoon families can enjoy a push bike toy run, a best decorated bike competition and a fun run for both juniors and adults.
She said zorb balls, amusement rides and lawn games would capture the children’s attention.
Water skiing will take place on the Wimmera River along with the great duck race.
Miss Hynes said the soundshell would come alive with music in the evening and people could watch the fireworks from City Oval.
Various related events round out the weekend on Sunday.
