The Wimmera White Ribbon Committee will host the event ahead of White Ribbon Day on Saturday. 

The committee’s chairman Geoff Miller said the city’s annual White Ribbon Walk raised critical awareness of an important issue in every community. 

“Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result domestic violence,” he said. 

“We want people to know that violence against women in any way is unacceptable.” 

Mr Miller said the walk starts at the Horsham Aquatic Centre at 12.30pm.

It will proceed along Firebrace Street before finishing in May Park with a short gathering that includes a free sausage sizzle. 

All Horsham residents are encouraged to attend the White Ribbon Day activity.

He said donations can be made at Grampians Community Health or www.whiteribbon.org.au/donate.

The Edenhope White Ribbon Walk starts at 1pm from the West Wimmera Shire Council office on Monday. 

The council also plans to launch an action plan to support the cause. 

The Yarriambiack Shire Council and Rural Northwest Health hosted a barbecue to support White Ribbon Day in Warracknabeal yesterday.

Last Wednesday the Ararat community participated in a community walk for White Ribbon Day.
