The greyhound industry in Victoria has a policy where if the forecast temperature is 38 degrees or greater, then the meeting shall be called off for the welfare of the greyhounds who do not sweat and only regulate their heat through panting and through the skin on their feet.

So it was a reset for the GRV Vic Bred Maiden Series, and Tuesday night witnessed eight heats with a very competitive theme throughout.
As predicted a couple of weeks ago, David Geall’s two runners, Fernando Drums and Emerald Rainbow, both saluted in their respective heats.
Emerald Rainbow topping the timesheet, with a 23.34 run from the 410m and both proved they will be hard to beat into the semi-finals.
Bill and Helen Hartigan had their home-bred Zulu Fred in heat four, and in a result which surprised most on track, he got his nose down right on the line to catch tearaway leader Aldrich.
The win was not the surprise, as he started a $3.60 second favourite, but the fact he got the nod in the photo as it appeared the brindle dog on the inside had held on. The official margin was .01 of a length - the smallest before a dead heat is declared.
The Hartigans also qualified Avatar Maximus for the next round with a third in heat eight.
Joining them in the semi-finals will be Cliff Smith and his charge, Swift Yakama, who finished second in heat seven and looks to have some improvement at what will be her fourth career start.
The first four across the line qualify automatically for the four semi-finals, with the first two to proceed to the final which is worth a respectable $7500 to the winner.
The club will also host a meeting on Saturday night, with the first race due to begin at 5.10pm and the last to go at 8.52pm, which gives people plenty of time to check out the action before heading across to Sawyer Park and the Kanamaroo Festival Fireworks Spectacular.
Looking forward, plans are well afoot for Boxing Day when the club will feature such attractions as a big screen to watch the cricket, Inflatable Olde English Pub for the grown-ups and plenty of attractions for the kids and lots of giveaways for everyone, as well as the greyhounds. The day is proudly supported by the state government’s Raceday Attraction Program and GRV.
