Sachse joins the Horsham District league club as a playing coach, following three years playing at Nhill in the Wimmera Football League.
Prior to that, Sachse spent 10 years at Rupanyup.
Pimpinio president Danny Hamerston said the club was looking for an experienced coach to help guide the senior side. “He is a six-time best-and-fairest winner and a Vic Country representative,” he said.
“What we set out to do is find a coach who would take the club forward.
“We are looking for hard-edged professionalism from Nathan, and we expect him to challenge the players.”
Sachse will also be heavily involved in developing the juniors at Pimpinio as they transition into playing senior football.
“He will definitely be overseeing the top-age juniors and be involved with the juniors,” Hamerston said.
Now the club has locked in a coach for 2018, it will turn its focus to bolstering its list.
“We’ve recruited four players already, with the intention of signing another six,” Hamerston said.
“We are nearly halfway there. We hope to add some depth to the list this year to help support our junior program.
“We haven’t lost any players from last year. We are certainly looking to get a lot stronger and adding depth.”
Hamerston expects the team to meet before Christmas to kick-off their pre-season training. This is Sachse’s first head coaching role.
He said he had been an assistant coach twice. “This is my first major role as a coach,” he said. Sachse lives in Horsham and said it would be good to coach a team nearby.
“I’ve been travelling the past 13 years to the outer town areas of the region and I guess I would like to be close to home and Pimpinio is a 10-minute drive down the road.”
Sachse said Hamerston came to him with the offer he couldn’t refuse.
“The opportunity to coach is a challenge and I though ‘why not?’,” he said.
Sachse said his goal was to bring in a sense of enjoyment to the club. “I want to come in, enjoy it and hopefully the other guys can have a bit of fun with it and see where it takes us,” he said.
