The Lady Hornets were off from the start of the contest according to coach Gareth Hiscock and he said their attitudes as soon as they arrived in Bendigo was terrible.
The Braves won 61 to 40.
Hiscock said his team entered the Braves stadium like they were ‘a pack of rock stars’.
“We were lacking a bit of the intensity at the start of the game and that probably costed us,” he said.
“We were lucky to still be in the game at half time, Georgia Hiscock played a bit of a lone hand in the first half and kept us in the game.
“(The Braves) tried to shut her down in the second half.”
Hiscock said the teams preparation was woeful.
“I gave them a bit of a blast before the game, it didn’t surprise me that we started the way we did,” he said.
Hiscock said it was a good learning curve for his side.
“(The Braves’) full court press slowed our offensive transition down and that upset our scoring balance… We adapted to that, our second half was a little bit better, although the third quarter is where (the Braves) ran away from us,” he said.
“Defensively we were fair, offensively we sucked.
“We shot poorly from the line. We had ample opportunities to be more competitive in the game but we had some players that were down and we shot poorly.
“That makes it hard to win a game of basketball when you’re only shooting 40-odd points.”
Hiscock said Georgia Hiscock was arguably the most influential player on the court for both teams.
She scored 13 points.
