The government body won in the Specialised Tourism Category at last week’s RACV Victorian Tourism Awards.
The award recognised Parks Victoria’s multiple accessibility initiatives, including the Grampians All Abilities Walking Track and TrailRider Guide, supported by all terrain wheelchairs and the Sherpa volunteer program.
The initiative allows for people with disabilities, seniors and others with mobility limitations to visit walks, views and sites in the Grampians, otherwise inaccessible by standard wheelchairs.
Parks Victoria chief executive officer Matthew Jackson said Parks Victoria always wanted their parks to be a destination of choice for visitors with disabilities.
“It is really important that visitors with disabilities can access the same experiences in nature that many of us often take for granted,” he said.
