This year Birchip Cropping Group had research field trials in Longerenong and Nhill, along with many sites in the Mallee.
Group research officer Cameron Taylor said about 90 per cent of the organisation’s trials had now been harvested.
“There are still a few trials at Nhill, Longerenong and Boort that are under irrigation,” he said.
“Most northern trials have been harvested, but just a few southern ones to go.”
Mr Taylor said results so far had been really positive.
“We’ve had good yields that have been fairly consistent across the Wimmera and Mallee,” he said.
“The crops we got off early have escaped weather damage.
“There was some frost in lentils, but nothing other farmers in the area haven’t experienced.”
Mr Taylor said the group had a range of barley and canola trials at its Longerenong College site.
“In barley, we looked at nitrogen timing along with plant growth regulator applications,” she said.
“We also did some work with canola varieties.”
Mr Taylor said the team at Birchip Cropping Group would now spend the next few weeks analysing crop samples.
“We’ll be very busy in the laboratory now, analysing all the trials and sorting through the results,” he said.
Birchip Cropping Group will release the results of its trials to members at its annual review day on February 16.
