Grover, the club’s junior coordinator and greenskeeper, said the club had a lot of sticks donated by members but new equipment would be a major boost.
“Good equipment makes golf a lot easier at both the top and bottom levels,” he said.
“So obviously we want to be able to provide the best equipment we can and then hopefully they get the golfing bug.
“That all then translates into membership in order to keep golf clubs alive in this district.”
The club received $2,996 to put towards its junior golf programs, clinics and school competitions as part to the first round of the 2017-18 VicHealth Active Club Grants program.
Between 23 and 35 juniors take part in the MyGolf program at the Nhill club. A junior competition has also been attracting 10 eager golfers each week.
Grover runs a weekly junior program at 4pm each Monday.
“I have a couple of regulars at the moment and I’ll keep doing it as long as there is interest,” he said.
“We’ll have a bit of a break over Christmas until mid-January but it runs all year round. Even in the cold and the wet its great to be outdoors on a golf course.”
Any junior interested in taking part in the club’s golf programs can contact Grover on 0412 603 917.
