Police found the body of a woman, 67, in a home at South Penrith on Wednesday at 10.45am.
She had stab wounds.
Officers attended a home on Chesterfield Road, South Penrith, after concerns were raised for the occupant.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.
Penrith detectives, assisted by the state crime command’s homicide squad, established Strike Force Tillock to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
As a result of inquiries, a Nhill man, 19, was arrested at his home at 9.15am on Thursday.
He was taken to Horsham Police Station, before being transported to Melbourne, where he will be charged with a NSW warrant for murder.
The man, who is known to the woman, is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
Strike force detectives will travel to Victoria to apply for the man’s extradition to Sydney.
Inquiries are continuing.
