Tahlia Thompson, Philippa Bush, Jordan Friberg and Connor Chivell all performed well against tough competition.
Team manager Nick Bush said placing 12th out of 16 teams was impressive for a country region.
“It was pretty much the same group that had played together the year before,” he said.
“They gelled well and have certainly improved heaps. It’s clear how much they’ve been practising and the support from their parents has been great.”
The cup is a chance for juniors aged 12 and under to represent their regions in a mixed team event.
Teams of two boys and two girls travelled to Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club from metropolitan and country regions to compete.
“The experience of going to Kooyong to play on courts where the Australian Open was once hosted was pretty special,” he said.
“The children were playing and Lleyton Hewitt was warming up on the court next door so that was pretty exciting for them. And of course playing against the state’s best players from the same age group give me them a good indication of just how good they are as well.”
Bush said one of the highlights of the tournament was when the side managed to defeat the Northern Suburban team on Saturday.
The match-up between the teams was decided by a single game when it ended 3-29 to 3-28.
Mornington Peninsula were far too strong for the Wimmera team on the way to its 6-37 to 0-12 win.
In the final match-up of the round robin format the Wimmera side took a set off Berwick and District Tennis Association but ultimately went down 5-36 to 1-11.
“The doubles and singles play of Thalia Thompson was certainly another highlight of the weekend,” Bush said.
