No fires can be lit in the open air in the region between one minute past midnight and 11.59pm on December 13.
The Country Fire Authority has advised residents that the fire danger rating was severe with a hot day forecast.
The total fire ban includes Horsham Rural City Council, Hindmarsh Shire, Northern Grampians Shire, West Wimmera Shire and Yarriambiack Shire.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a maximum temperature of 41 degrees on Wednesday.
There will be light winds of 25 to 35 kilometres per hour in the morning tending northwest then shifting southwesterly in the evening.
