Crews will be on the ground checking pits and pipes, laying the fibre backbone to the network and installing node cabinets throughout the area.
Head of nbn local Victoria and Tasmania, Ebony Aitken, said St Arnaud residents could likely switch to the NBN from August.
“By August next year residents and businesses will have access to a network which is both fast and reliable,” she said.
“It has been needed in regional and rural Australia for many years.”
But a recent Australian Competition and Consumer Commission report has revealed a 79 per cent increase in NBN-related complaints received by the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in the past year.
St Arnaud residents may experience disruptions due to civil works.
