Owner Claire Morgan has launched www.rupanyupliving.com.au, which offers both a click and collect option and Australia-wide shipping.
It marks the next step in Mrs Morgan’s desire to participate in change and inspire others – a mantra she lives by, and what drove her to create Rupanyup Living six years ago.
The business – set in a little cottage in the town’s main street – offers a range of homewares, clothing, accessories and produce, including Mrs Morgan’s now famous brownie mix.
She spent months perfecting her recipe, which uses flour from chickpeas grown in the Wimmera.
The brownie mix has attracted interest from across the nation.
Mrs Morgan said the decision to branch into the online market came from demand.
“It was something that came about over time, but it has always been in the back of my mind to do that eventually,” she said.
“People would pass through town while visiting the Silo Art Trail, or when visiting family and friends, and stumble across this little gem.
“They are surprised by the different brands and the range of homewares and gifts we offer in a small town.
“I believe everything is about timing, and now was the right time to reach out to that larger audience.
“I contacted the girls from Aubrey + Areegra in Warracknabeal and talked to them about launching online. I have absolutely loved working with them.”
Mrs Morgan said the online store would give customers far and wide a chance to see what the store offered.
“I'm all about people coming into the shop for that local experience and shopping local, and I also wanted to reach out to those who would never be able to get to Rupanyup,” she said.
“Some people can’t get in off the farm at this time or year with harvest, so the website allows people to buy and then come into the shop to collect their items when it suits, or have them sent directly to them.
“It’s a very exciting step.”
The move into the online market and Rupanyup Living’s continued growth has also led to Mrs Morgan employing two staff members.
“I’m very much about growing our region, and I want people to realise there are wonderful businesses around, and that they need to get out there and support them if we want them in our towns,” she said.
“I started Rupanyup Living because it was something I wanted to see in our town.
“I want to be able to shop locally, have nice services and provide opportunities for local people.
“I have liaised closely with Yarriambiack Shire Council about promoting our region, enjoying where you live, and bringing people to the region.
“I love meeting new people, bringing the community and visitors together, and supporting country style and flavour.”
Mrs Morgan encouraged other businesses to consider an online option to grow their businesses.
“It is an expensive start-up, but a great opportunity for rural businesses,” she said.
Mrs Morgan’s next step is another food creation.
