They received the call about 2.40pm on Wednesday.
A Country Fire Authority District Five spokesperson said the fire had burnt through the Balmoral Recreation Reserve to Mathers Creek.
The spokesperson said firefighters had held the fire to Balmoral-Coleraine Road at this point.
Country Fire Authority media spokesman Matt Gallant said three fire trucks were on the scene with a further nine tankers enroute.
“I suspect they are chucking everything at it to stop the fire as quickly as possible,” he said.
4.19pm: The Balmoral blaze is being downgraded to an advice message.
Country Fire Authority public information officer Jenny McGennisken said the advice message means the risk has been lessened.
“The community is no longer at risk,” she said.
Ms McGennisken said the fire started at the recreation reserve but the CFA is unaware of any structure damage.
“The crews are on the scene and were able to get on top of it,” she said.
