Chief executive Rose Read said many people would upgrade their computers at Christmas, and would need to dispose of their old ones.
DropZone has a site at Dimboola Waste Transfer Station where people can drop off computers, printers and computer accessories for free.
The Dimboola site is open from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Mondays and Fridays, and from 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays and weekends.
Ms Read said computers and computer accessories could harm the environment if they were not disposed of correctly.
“For example, older-style CRT monitors contain more than two kilograms of lead and other toxic substances which, if sent to landfill, can break down and leach into groundwater, causing pollution,” she said.
“But we know the community is keen to do the right thing with their e-waste. Hindmarsh shire residents put in a great effort to recycle more than 7100 kilograms of e-waste in the 12 months to June 30.
“That’s over 1.2kg per person recycling a variety of products including computers, printers, IT accessories, cables and televisions.
“Residents should be very proud of their efforts in keeping e-waste out of landfill. This is a great outcome for the community and the environment.”
Ms Read said more than 95 per cent of products collected at DropZone sites would be recovered, recycled and made into new products.
She said DropZone sites operated throughout the year.
