Maryborough matched it with the Hornets early on in the match, with Horsham leading by only five points at the first break.
The second quarter was also close before the Hornets managed to open up a 13-point lead at half-time.
Coach Cam Bruce said the first half was physical.
“It was a bit of an arm-wrestle in the first half,” he said.
“We played reasonably well, it just took us a bit of time to get used to the style of play.”
In the third quarter the Hornets were clinical.
“We had a couple of their key players in foul trouble and put a lot of pressure on them at the start of the third quarter, Bruce said.
“We were up after half-time and we talked about coming out ready to play and we definitely did that.”
Their lead after the third quarter was out to 25 points. The fourth quarter saw a similarly dominant display as the team finished with a 28-point win.
Scoring was spread across the team with Matt Lloyd scoring 16, Tim Pickert 15, James Hallet 15 and Matt Lovel also scoring 15 points. Jake Hobbs also chipped in with eight points.
Bruce said it was pleasing to rotate the players around during the match.
“It was sensational to rotate and get a few of the young kids on,” he said.
“A lot of them stepped up at key times, which was fantastic to see.”
