RSPCA Victoria and Horsham Rural City Council staff attended a property on Friday.

RSPCA Victoria western region inspectorate acting team leader Graham Hambridge said inspectors attended in response to community reports concerning the welfare of ponies at the property.

“Following inspection of the animals on the property, RSPCA Victoria inspectors seized four ponies, and a further 14 were surrendered, because of immediate and serious concerns for the animals’ welfare,” he said.

“All of the animals are now receiving veterinary care.

“As this is an ongoing investigation, RSPCA Victoria is unable to provide any further information at this stage.”

HORSHAM Rural City Council and RSPCA Victoria staff have removed animals from a property near Horsham.

Council’s planning and economic director Angela Murphy said council safety officers helped RSPCA staff to remove about 20 animals from a Riverside property on Friday.

It comes after an RSPCA investigation.

“Council welcomed the opportunity to work with the RSPCA on this matter to enforce important animal welfare legislation,” Ms Murphy said.

“The RSPCA and council share the goal of encouraging responsible animal management.”
