FAMILIES and friends gathered at the region’s New Year’s Eve parties to say goodbye to 2017 and bring in the new year.
The Hopetoun community came together for its annual New Year’s Eve party at Lake Lascelles.
The town kicked back and celebrated the end of 2017 with food, warm weather and live entertainment from Johnny and the Lightnings.
Organiser of the band and helper Nicole Uebergang said the night was enjoyed by all.
She said 300 people came down for the event.
“Everyone was camping around the lake and from 6pm they wandered over to sit back on the grass and listen to the live band,” she said.
Mrs Uebergang said the band was well-liked.
“We had a new band this year and every one was very happy with them,” she said.
In Rupanyup, people flocked to the town’s recreation reserve to welcome the new year with family and friends at the New Year’s Eve picnic on the grass.
Carrying their rugs, beanbags and picnic baskets, people set up in front of the big screen to bring in the new year watching family favourites and the Sydney fireworks.
Event organiser Bec Dunlop said the night was a hit with many Rupanyup residents and their extended families attending.
“One of the beautiful things about rural communities is that all the kids are very inclusive,” she said.
“We saw a big game of cricket with kids from many different families and visitors which was fantastic to see.
“The big screen was a true hit and it’s such a fantastic asset for the football club and town.
“We finished the evening off with glow sticks and sparklers.”
Mrs Dunlop said she about 150 people passed through the gates.
“Whether it was for an hour, two hours or for the entire event – it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves,” she said.
Mrs Dunlop said the town was excited to make it happen again next year.
The Horsham Aquatic Centre’s New Year’s Eve pool party had children in the water for the afternoon.
The children found plenty of fun playing ball games and having a turn on the inflatables and slides.
Duty manager Siobhan Delaney said the pool party was enjoyed by both children and their parents.
“The children had a great time on the inflatables and playing ball games,” she said.
“They all left with big smiles on their faces, which is fantastic to see.”
