TWO Wimmera tennis players will head to the Inter-regional Country Victoria Championships in Wodonga as favourites in their respective divisions.
Sophie De Wit, under-25s, and Genevieve Bush, under-16s, have both been given top seeds at the competition.
De Wit’s top seeding in the 14-women under-25s competition sees her earn a bye in the first round, with her first match to take place this morning in the quarter finals.
Genevieve Bush also starts her under-16s competition as the favourite out of 19 competitors. She is seeded one place higher than last year’s tournament.
Bush enters the competition in the second round and will face off against Mia Stevens from East Gippsland.
De Wit and Bush’s top seedings follow on from their strong performances at last year’s competition in Swan Hill.
Both finished as runners up in their age groups, with Wimmera finishing sixth overall.
They will be hopeful of going one better than last year with their respective finals, should they make them, to take place on Sunday.
