The family believe their dog was taken from the Woolworths car park in Horsham on December 21 between 4.30pm and 5pm.
Nhill’s Alf Cook said he was visiting Horsham when his dog Bella was taken.
Bella is a two-year-old staffordshire bull terrier.
“We tied her to a pole in the shade on the west side of the building,” Mr Cook said.
“We were in the store for 20 minutes and when we came out she was gone.”
Mr Cook said he suspected that Bella was stolen from the car park.
“If she did manage to get free she would have gone straight to the car,” he said.
“A woman said she saw a family playing with Bella, but we are not sure if they took her.”
Mr Cook said losing Bella was like losing a child.
“She is more than my dog – she is my only child,” he said.
Mr Cook said Bella would be distressed.
He said anyone with information should call him on 0429 923 211 or 5391 1851.
Mr Cook said he was concerned about Bella’s welfare.
“She is on medication and overdue for a vet appointment,” he said.
“She is in season but it too young to have pups, so I’m extremely worried.
“We are offering a reward for anyone that has information.”
