A YOUNG under-15 Wimmera-Mallee side was overpowered by Warrnambool Blue’s batting depth on the first day of the country week carnival in Horsham.

The team lost early wickets while batting first and struggled to recover before Warrnambool managed to eclipse its score by 75 runs courtesy of a strong lower order.
Wimmera-Mallee was 4-37 before Darcy Reid and Josh Walters-Marsh combined for a 41-run partnership to allow the side to move towards a reasonable today.
Reid was eventually bowled for 32 while Walters-Marsh accumulated an unbeaten 23 runs.
The side’s total was boosted by 35 extras and allowed it to finish its 40 overs 8-125.
Warrnambool Blue were in all sorts of trouble early as Reid and Walters-Marsh made things difficult with ball in hand.
Reid removed opener Fletcher Cozens and first-drop Theo Opperman.
Momentum was certainly swinging the way of Wimmera-Mallee when Walters-Marsh picked up two wickets in three balls in his fourth over of the day.
The Warrnambool side was 4-41 at the and were 5-50 shortly after when Bronte Campbell chimed in with a wicket.
With 25 runs still required to win the batting side lost its seventh wicket and looked likely to fall short chasing the low target.
Jacob Dunne, 35 not out, and Paddy O’Sullivan, 39 not out, steadied the ship for their side and allowed it to finish the day 7-200.
