The eight-week program, starting on March 1, will focus on fitness and strength, performing daily tasks, coping with life after treatment and connecting with others.
Wimmera cancer nurse practitioner Carmel O’Kane said the program offered a valuable experience for people with cancer.
“It is important that everyone exercises because it improves survival by 10 to 15 per cent and we teach them to do it safely,” she said.
Ms O’Kane said the program was well-received in the past. She encouraged cancer survivors and people still in treatment to register.
“Those participating absolutely loved it. It’s the perfect combination of exercise and education,” she said.
The program will be available in Horsham, Stawell and Warracknabeal.
Ms O’Kane said people could register with Wimmera Health Care Group on 5381 9333, Rural Northwest Health on 5396 1315 or Stawell Regional Health on 5358 8630.
