Millington celebrated Greyhound of the Year with Starbright Vic after a second placing on Boxing Day. He kicked off his day in great style when sister Starbright Maddie claimed race 2 over 410m. She broke her maiden status at her seventh start in what has been a frustrating run with injury and extended layoffs.
Completing the double for Millington was his kennel star, Solar Mocha, who knocked over his rivals over the 410m in race 7. The son of Vee Man Vane raced admirable in a Ballrat Cup heat back in December. Tuesday was his second win since competing at the top level. He provides plenty of value with Tuesday’s price of $8.50 on the Victorian TAB the lowest price nationally, some corporates offered as much as $23.00.
Bill and Helen Hartigan have built a handy team around a few core greyhounds and rarely does a meeting go by without some success. On Tuesday it was the appropriately named Al’s Luck for his heat of a mixed grade 6/7 over 410m. Al’s Luck was able to avoid the traffic jam through the turn and used his customary powerful finishing burst to run over the top of the field and bag his position in the final tomorrow.
Also in the final for the Hartigans is Avartar Vixen who almost broke the first section record in recording 10.17s for the first split from box 4. She tends to tire in the last 20-30 metres but there are signs of that improving and her second placing last week sees her grab the coveted box 1 for the final.
Tomorrow Jeff Guy (Horsham) has two ageing stars and littermates at Horsham with Paraphernalia tackling 485m in race 8 and fresh from a brilliant win at Mt Gambier and a close fourth at Sandown appears primed to add to his $67,000 career earnings. Kryptonian takes on probably his easiest task for some time in race 11 over 410m and after also drawing box 1.
First race of the 12-race card kicks off at 3.57pm. Entry is free.
