The former Essendon and Greater Western Sydney coach will be giving a speech and answering questions at Stawell’s Gift Hotel on January 26.
Gift Hotel owner Peta Duns said they sought out Sheedy to visit to drive interest to the town.
“We (Gift Hotel) have been looking to get more people into town such as guest speakers or sports stars,” she said.
“Stawell seems to have a big Essendon supporter base so obviously Kevin is right at the top of the list in terms of Essendon people.
“We have a few contacts and were able to track him down for Australia Day evening.”
Sheedy will be at the hotel from 8pm for three hours where he will deliver a speech and interact with the patrons.
The Australian Football hall of fame member has had a decorated and quirky career in football, standing out as one of the most recognisable football figures in the industry.
He played in three premierships with Richmond during the 1970s before going on to coach Essendon to four VFL/AFL premierships, staying in the role for 27 years.
Sheedy has also been a pioneer and innovator for the sport, creating occasions such as the Anzac day round, the indigenous round.
In recent times has been crucial to the growth of country round which promotes and recognises the work done by farmers and country people and towns across the nation.
“"The people across regional Australia don't get enough recognition for their tireless work, and we should celebrate the history of agriculture and farming to Australia's economy, as well as the people who live and work in these regional towns,” Sheedy said at the launch of the inaugural country round in 2016.
Duns said having such an interesting person with a long career will make for an intriguing discussion.
“He will be talking and answering questions and we will also have a true or false segment,” she said.
“As we know he can be pretty honest so it will be quite interesting what he talks about.”
Duns said having Sheedy in town will be a great way to celebrate Australia Day.
“There isn’t much else happening that night so it would be a great way to cap off the day with an Australian legend.”
Entry to see Kevin Sheedy speak at Stawell on Australia Day is $30, with a limited amount of tickets available.
