Young came it number seven with his side struggling at 5-43 in reply to Metropolitan West’s total of 136 and worked his way to a well-compiled 43 runs.

The Dunmunkle Renegades junior’s innings came off 66 balls and included 4 boundaries but it was not quite enough to help his side to a win. He lost his wicket when the side was on 124, just 14 runs short of its target. The final two wickets fell quickly as the Waves were ultimately bowled out for 131 in the 39^th over.

Earlier in the day the side had bowled well to restrict its metropolitan opponent.

Wickets fell at a steady rate during the sides innings with only four batsmen making it to double figures as Nethum Athukorala top scoring with 21 runs in the middle order.

Ethan Boyd led the attack with figures of 3-29 off 7.3 over while Young paired with him to open the attack. He claimed 0-9 off his two over spell while Dunmunkle teammate  Lachlan Weidemann bowled 4 overs to finish with 0-17.

Young also chipped in with four catches.

The final pool game to be played by the under-16 Western Waves side was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Princess Park due to water damage on the wicket.

A win in the game would have given the side a good chance to finish on top of its pool but the draw resulted in it finishing second.

Coach John Houston took advantage of the day off to allow the side to experience an impromptu session with a sports psychologist after being unable to organise a some match practice.

“We were going to have a hit but we couldn’t get on to a ground,” Houston said.

“We had a sports psychologist talk to us for an hour-and-a-half, he talked a lot about being in the zone and how to train yourself to block things out.”
