The town is one of a handful in the Wimmera that will receive high-speed broadband through a multi-technology model.
Part of the town will be serviced by fixed line technology, a mix of fibre to the node and fibre to the curb.
Properties in the area on the east side of Yarriambiack Creek, north of Anzac Park and west of the Borung Highway will receive fixed line services.
The other parts of the town and outlying areas – about 1000 premises – are connected to the fixed wireless service.
The fixed wireless tower in Warracknabeal has been in service since 2015.
Yarriambiack Shire Council had previously expressed concern some Warracknabeal residents and businesses would not get the best possible service under the arrangement.
Council’s planning and infrastructure director James Magee said at the time the areas of town that would receive fibre to the node excluded many businesses.
NBN Local media advisor Kasey Ellison said the federal government mandated the corporation to provide a minimum wholesale download speed of 25 megabits a second to every Australian premise as soon as possible, using a multi-technology model.
“This model is enabling us to deliver access to high-speed broadband to Australians much faster and more cost effectively than ever before,” she said.
“Warracknabeal, like other areas in Australia, will receive high-speed broadband through our multi-technology model. There are several factors that determine which technology is chosen for each area and these include geographical location, existing infrastructure, cost and time to build.”
Ms Ellison said the premises in the town’s fixed line network would be able to switch to an NBN plan by mid-2018.
