Louie Lasagna became the second greyhound to break the 23-second mark from the 410m start in race 6 in recording 22.997 for David Burnett (Little River). Burnett has close ties to the Wimmera with Cliff and Pat Smith (Wonwondah) training numerous dogs for him. Pat had success with recent kennel addition, Kalani Tim, in race 1. It was Kalani Tim’s first win and was heavily supported after gaining a start as reserve and paid $3.80 on the TAB. Kiss Me Razley finished third in race 4 for Cliff Smith/Burnett comibination.
Jeff Guy’s Paraphernalia was expected to perform well in race 8, and after several scratching leaving a field of only four greyhounds punters sent the son of Big Daddy Cool out as the $1.50 favourite. The rank outsider lead Paraphernalia all the was consigning him to second.
Faster Bolt took out race 11 for Steve Elsum (Camperdown) and took his record to five wins from eight starts. He then backed up at Ballarat on Saturday night and won again. The most pleasing aspect for connections is that he is also running time, recording 23.10 at Horsham and a quickest of the night at Ballarat in 22.01.
Tomorrow night, Bruce and Heather Baxter (Murtoa) will be hoping Isla Maye can show her rivals a clean pair of heels from box one in race. She has had two starts to date for a second and a third and appears certain to break her maiden status soon.
Club president Ian Bibby, is chasing a win in race 6 with Crymelon Idol in a heat of a Vic Bred 1-4 win series over the 495m. He should get plenty of room out wide from box 7.
Merbein-trained Bear’s Gold lines up over 410m in race 11. Fresh from a hattrick of wins, the Jamie Quinlivian-trained runner has an impressive record of 27 wins from his 48 starts and is well graded and for those not scared of long odds on should be confident in this event.
