NHILL has kicked off its fifth annual Friday fiesta series.
Horsham’s Dave McMaster headlined the first of four events at Nhill Lake last week, which also featured a welcome to new residents.
Nhill Town Committee secretary Helen Ross said the atmosphere was brilliant.
“People kept on saying to the band, ‘Play more’ – they didn’t want to go home,” she said.
“We had about 370 people, and that’s not counting the 60 or 70 children who were there. We had 14 adults and seven children register as new residents for the night, and they received free entry and their meal.
“It was the best response we’ve ever had to a new resident function in the town.”
Mick Coates and the Allnitelongers and a blade shearing competition feature in the second installment on Friday night.
“World champion Richie Foster from Apsley has challenged one of our local lads to the competition,” Ross said.
“It’s raised so much interest, and there are some others who have said they want to have a go too.
“There will be a lot of things for the younger ones this week, including a bucking bull.
“The kids loved it last year and begged us to get it back.”
Musician Pete Daffy will also play on the night.
Entry is $5 for adults, with free admission for children under 15.
The fiesta starts at 7pm.
